Spread over 1850 sq km, the Namdapha National Park is situated in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. Also a Tiger reserve, this National Park has topography with altitudes ranging from plains to 4500 meters. The diverse vegetation of the Park provides a natural habitat to a diverse range of birds and animals. The National Park maintains its virginal, unexploited beauty due to inaccessibility to the greater part of the park.
Best Time to Visit Namdhapa Tiger Reserve
Namdhapa's visiting season is from October to March.
How to Get there Air: The nearest airport is situated at Dibrugarh, which is 163-km away from the park.
Rail: The nearest railhead is Ledo, situated 56 - km away from Namdhapa Tiger Park.
Road : From Tinusukia or Dibugarh, the journey to Miao, headquarte
rs of the National Park and the Tiger Reserve, has to be done by road, over a distance of 150-km. Then, a forest road stretching over around 28-km gives access to the protected area up to a place called Deban, which has a lovely forest rest house and some other accommodation for the field staff. Beyond this area there is no road as such and all movement inside the reserve has to be on foot through dense forest and steep hill ranges with streams and rivers flowing in between. Miao can be reached by Jeep/Gypsy from Margherita (Assam) and Pasighat.
Tips:
1) Leeches are everywhere in Namdapha and in large numbers. Carry protective gear.
2) To really get the most out of a Namdapha visit, camping inside the Park at Hornbill, Bulbulia, Haldibari is a must. A reliable travel agent's services may be required unless you are going on a guided tour.
3) Rain is never predictable, give yourself some extra days to make sure that a trip is not wasted.
