Welcome to the Ghazals/Poetry section of Spider on web!
The word Ghazal originates from arabic, meaning, "way or mannerism of talking to or talking about women." Thus in fact it s an expression of love! But in this ever changing world the ghazal
has become a reflection of the life around us, and now there is hardly any sphere of human interaction which the ghazal hasn't touched.
On this section you will find various types of Ghazals like urdu ghazal, hindi gazal, romantic ghazal and more...
The Ghazal was developed in Persia in the 10th century AD. It was brought to India with the Mogul invasion in the 12th century. The Ghazal tradition is currently practiced in Iran (Farsi), Pakistan (Urdu) and India (Mainly Urdu and Hindi, but also other languages such as Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam etc.). In India, especially in Northern India, there are many people who may not know the Urdu script but can speak and understand a good amount of Urdu and can read and write the same in Hindi or Devnagari script.
Mirza Ghalib was a 19th century Indian writer, one of the greats in the ghazal tradition, and this site you will find the great collection of ghazals from all over the world.
It is always a pleasure to hear from friends and lover of Ghazals. Feel free to contact us with suggestions, comments and corrections.
